Using Natural Light

Here is a good demonstration of how to use natural light. With a digital camera this is a much easier process than it was 5 or 10 years ago. You can try different settings till you get the picture you want without having to waste film or lots of money. For this photo I went to the kitchen in my house and turned off all the lights. (This was at night.) I then took a whole bunch of pictures until I got the one I wanted. To make this work right I put my D-70 in manual mode and set the ISO to 1600 and the shutter speed to 1/100 sec and the F-stop @ 1.8 with a 50mm lens. Note: for those that have a point a shoot digital camera I suggest that you use a tripod because that camera will set the shutter speed very low, about 1/5 of a second or so which makes it impossible to get a shot that is not blurry or unusable.

Cute Kitten

Here are two cute kitten photos taken at my friends the Whites house. Their owner Jennifer says that the kitten is doing well and contiues being cute all the time. (Note: I must admit that I staged the shot where the kitten is sleeping with its paw over the ear. While the cat slept I picked up the paw and placed it on the cats ear. I was amazed that the cat never woke up even though I was moving it around!!)

Photo of the day

Today's photo was taken about a week and a half ago just north of Charlotte Michigan where I live. I just happened to be at the railroad crossing just before the train went through. The angle that the picture was taken from makes you think the train is almost on top of you.

To start out, here's one of my favorite pictures, taken at the MSU Horticulture Garden this summer:

Be sure to check back often, as I will be adding pictures regularly.
